The #1 Detox Tip For an Easy Fertility Boost

Bring nature in through plants, air, and water, not on the bottom of your shoes.

Bring nature in through plants, air, and water, not on the bottom of your shoes.

I’m often asked, “If you could give only one tip, what would it be to help someone detox their home to improve their health?”.

There’re tons of easy-to-implement tips to improve your air quality, move out pollutants, and maintain a safer sanctuary to call home so you can optimize your health. Some may take more effort than others, but if I had to pick just one, it would be “NO SHOES IN THE HOUSE”.

Why?

Well, for starters its going to give you the biggest impact with the least amount of effort and secondly, it’s gross (I’m not judging - it’s a fact). We trek all over the city, through parking lots, bathrooms near and far, sidewalks with dog poo + bird droppings and the list goes on. How often are you cleaning the bottoms of your shoes? How ‘bout never?

It’s impossible to be 100% toxic-free all of the time, but we can certainly do a lot to lighten our toxic load to optimize our wellbeing.

A study was done by the University of Arizona on footwear and the bacteria we carry on the average shoe. The researchers found 421,000 units of bacteria on the outside of the shoe, including E. coli (leading cause of UTIs), meningitis and diarrheal disease, as well as pneumonia.

In the study, 10 people wore brand-new shoes for two weeks before their kicks were sampled. Fecal bacteria appeared on 96% of the shoes.

If you’re still not convinced about checking your shoes at the door, do it for your emotional health. Removing your shoes at the end of the day signals your brain and body to enter into a more relaxed state. Yes, please!

Plus, all that dirt and grim on the floor makes more work for you to clean. Why do that to yourself?

BONUS DETOX TIP: A very close second top tip is to remove scents in the home. Tough, I know. But it’s one of the biggest hormone disruptors, impacting fertility. The majority of scents in the home, like plug-ins, bathroom sprays, perfumes, most candles (although I’ve found two brands I’m loving that are healthier), are loaded with harmful chemicals (some of which are hidden as “natural scent” or labeled as “perfume” or “fragrance”).

Remember, everything you smell, your body is absorbing.

Think about that. Everything you can smell, your body is absorbing.

Opt for 100% organic essential oils as a substitute. You can dab a drop on your wrists and defuse it in your home to accomplish exactly what all of those chemicals are trying to do.
