I've spent years optimizing rituals that give my family and me the biggest ROI when it comes to our well-being. I'm sharing my top tips today.
3 Daily Rituals to Proactively Keep You Mentally + Physically Healthy:
1. Walk in morning light - even 30 minutes is considered moderate exercise helping chip away at the CDC's recommended 150 minutes/week. I commit to a morning walk for a couple of reasons; I’m in FL 🥵, morning sun = melatonin optimization (a.k.a. better sleep) and a mood booster, and by getting it done early in the day I can't talk myself out of it like I would if it were after work. Even 15 minutes of sunlight can help optimize your circadian rhythm, reduce anxiety, and elevate your mood.
2. Water over everything. Before I consume anything I drink a full glass of warm lemon water with salt. Its hydrating with added electrolytes, helping remove all the toxins collected overnight.
We lose more than a pound of water overnight - so we wake up already dehydrated. Hydrating > everything else.
3. Break fast with a nutrient dense smoothie - pack it with dark greens, fats, antioxidants, and other minerals + vitamins. When I break fast with a healthy smoothie, I’m much more likely to continue making healthy choices and eat nourishing foods throughout the whole day. The good habits just stack more easily.
Opt for organic nut milk, a hand full of dark greens, a spoon full of healthy fat (peanut butter or coconut oil), and then lots of frozen berries (1/2 - 1 c). Add in any other supplements or ingredients that support your personal well
That's it!
Nothing ground breaking and it all happens before 9:30am (most days). These three rituals set me up for a day of mental clarity, a better outlook/mood, better decision-making, more energy, and ultimately a better life.
